What Can I Do?
A storm, a diagnosis, a grieving heart...whatever it might be, unfortunately, we live in a broken world full of disasters, death, distress, disappointment and discontent and bad things happen to good people all around us. (Thanks alot, Adam!)
There are so many circumstances surrounding us and when we are on the outside looking in, the "What can I do besides in addition to praying?" feelings are overwhelming. It is the question I have been asking myself and others alot lately. There has got to be more I can do, whether I am 3 feet or 3,000 miles away.
We are lucky, blessed, whatever you want to call it, to have a choice.
So, again.."What Can I Do in addition to praying?" start by working together with others towards a common goal because
"..Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed" Ecc 4:9
We can lend a helping hand and a prayerful heart to those who need assistance.
It is our job.
".. we must work, doing something useful with our own hands, that we may have something to share with those in need." Eph. 4:28 NIV
With great optimism, resilience and faith, ultimately we can help in turning the bad into good by getting up and doing something....
• Offer Your Physical Presence - Be there. Be Close.
• Offer Security - Open your doors to offer safety and protection.
• Offer Practical Assistance - Offer to prepare meals, run errands & make appointments.
• Give Emotional Support - Pray for them and with them..out-loud.
• Love One Another - "We belong to each other and each of us needs all the others"Romans 12:5
• Demonstrate hope & remind others that giving up is not an option

Communication
"The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place." we wonder why so many families have the "Elephant" in the room

Holidays
Boxing Day
December 26th was the best part of Christmas, Forest and I had the kids over for our privite little Christmas Dinner, we had a really good time. Wine, white chocolate, home movies - of course there was a full roast beef dinner. That special spirit of Christmas filled the rooms with love and I am so grateful for the gift of this day so I can see the peace and goodwill of my family and know we are doing something right.
Christmas Day
This holiday season was not the best, sometimes families just can't get beyond themselves. They don't remember how to just be there for one another, as the world changes it seems much more negative and judgemental. When did we stop giving each other the benefit of the doubt? when did we stop believing that each persons heart was in the right place? When did we forget the true meaning of Christmas? I don't have the answers, what i do know is that family is the most important part of my life. I love my mother unconditionally, I miss my dad more each day and pray that through his strenght he can once again be the rock, the anchor that is missing in my mom's world. I love my sister, we grew up very close and we try to keep in touch with each other but busy lives appear to make it impossible which is sad. We need to stay positive and accept the things we can't change and love one another.
Thanksgiving
Kristin and Kevin hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year, it was wonderful. She Incorporated all the traditions that have been held in our family and laid the seeds of new traditions too. She is a great cook, she knows how to get all the fixings on the table, HOT. I was so comfortable and relaxed picking at all the goodies in the lazy susan dish.
Kristin served me my very own mini pecan pie! mouthwatering, the best Thanksgiving in years and it was wonderful having my mother feeling well enough to enjoy the day with my husband and I, and the 4- K'sThis is our traditional Thanksgiving day board passed down from my mother the board itself was a wedding gift in 1952 |
